Mill Pond Kayak, LLC offers guided tours of the 412-acre cypress-lined Watson Mill Pond at George L. Smith State Park near Twin City, GA. This is a great outing for school groups, scout troops, church groups, company picnics, reunions, or family and friends.
Kayaking is an activity that can be learned quickly and enjoyed by all ages. It’s less strenuous than paddling a jon boat or canoe. With the double-bladed paddle your motion is more fluid and efficient. You’re sitting closer to the water, and you only dip the paddle blade just below the surface in order to take a stroke. You’ll make less noise in a kayak, which can get you a closer view of wildlife.
Our kayaks are wide and stable so you’re less likely to tip over than you may think. The cockpits are very spacious, making them easy to enter and exit. We have comfortable seats with adjustable back support, cupholders for your drinks, and storage hatches for your gear.
We’ll equip you with the kayaks, paddles, vests, and some basic instruction. Then we’ll take you out for approximately 2-1/2 hours to explore some of the ten miles of blackwater trails on the mill pond.
You can start your journey near the check-in station and explore the lower end of the pond near the dam and historic covered bridge, then head up past the campgrounds and picnic area. Or you can increase your chances of viewing wildlife by starting at the fishing dock near the pioneer campground and paddling upstream toward the Hwy. 80 bridge.
The George L. Smith State Park camping and picnic facilities make this an ideal place for your next group outing. You can get out and enjoy the natural beauty of the mill pond while still having the convenience of the nearby group shelters and restrooms.
This is a great place to get together for a birthday party, class or family reunion, school field trip, company picnic, or sunday school class trip. The pioneer campground is ideal for a weekend of scouting activities. Or maybe you just have a group of friends and neighbors who want to get their kids away from the TV set, video games, and internet, and get out for a little exercise in a beautiful outdoor setting.
We have 10 single-person kayaks and 5 tandem kayaks available for your party.
Note that Liability Waiver Forms must be completed prior to your tour.
Tours run Mar. 1 through Nov. 30. We will also be organizing day trips on the nearby Ogeechee and Ohoopee Rivers when water conditions are favorable. Call (478) 299-6616 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your date.
